This was a very fun game system and an interesting setting. I was a player in an evening long one shot session. I’d love to do this again with a longer campaign and get to know the world of Neverglow better.
The setting was intriguing and fun to work with. Character creation is a narrative process that builds a background and setting hooks at the same time as the mechanical aspects of your character. This was a great start.
The setting has a few interesting old fae and other references. It’s flexible enough to fit just about any character into the world.
The writing is fun and I enjoyed a lot of the references in various parts of the book. Nice little easter eggs.
In terms of game mechanics it’s a good implementation of the dots for a dice pool approach. The game has some novel takes on conflict resolution.
Conflict of any kind is handled with a pool of health for social, mental, and physical conflict and consequence. This makes it an option to go with an option other than “hit with stick!”
The hardest time I had with this game was breaking out of combat driven D&D or 40k mindset. Once I busted the rust off of my brain and got its gears rotating, this was a hoot.
Overall, 5/5 this is an enjoyable and engaging setting with a good game system. It rewards flexibility and creativity.
